Leadership has never been something I believe we practice only at work.
Some of the causes closest to my heart — protecting our natural world, working with communities in Africa, and advancing climate solutions — have also given me places to put my leadership principles into practice.
They have challenged me to balance action with reflection, linear thinking with human wisdom, and what we can accomplish individually with what becomes possible collectively.
These are my passion projects. Yours may look entirely different. But wherever we choose to contribute, the opportunity is the same: to bring more of who we are, more wisdom, and more intentional leadership to the things that matter.
My passion for the environment started as a volunteer for IDA Africa. In Cameroon, Africa while working with endangered Chimpanzees, I witnessed firsthand deforestation and its devastating effect on the entire ecosystem, and decided I wanted to become a voice for those with no voice in the Climate Crisis.
As a Mentor for the Climate Reality Leadership Corps, I’m mentoring individuals interested in becoming leaders to lead the global fight for climate solutions. The organization was founded in 2006 by former Vice President Al Gore, as a bipartisan initiative to curb climate change.
The Climate Reality Leadership Corps currently has over 17,000 climate leaders worldwide.
Joshua May, Dean Barone and I are the Co-Founders of the Business Working Group an initiative under the Climate Reality Leadership Corps aimed at partnering with small and mid-sized businesses.
My focus is to encourage businesses to have leadership on Climate Change and convey the business case of “doing good, is doing well”. BWG focuses on business efficiency, return on investment, risk reduction, as well as communicate the costs of inaction. I also speak to the Generational Shift seen in the Millennials and the financial gain of understanding how to attract, retain and engage these employees, investor and customers.
To bring the communication and the urgency of climate solutions to our local community, I’m one of the founding members of The Climate Reality Leadership Corps Denver-Boulder Chapter. Together with the other founders I’m in charge of bringing the climate conversation and solutions to our local community, state government and businesses.
